Name -meaning of Sakai-
Sakai was border of two country, Izumi and Settsu.
So, People came to call "Sakai" .

History
First, A lot of ancient tomb ("Kofun" in Japanese) are built about 1600 years ago. For example, Nintoku tomb, Richu tomb, Hanzei tomb and so on. These are called "the group of Mozu tomb"("Mozu kofungun" in Japanese.) These are one of the most famous place of Sakai.
Second, Sakai was flourished as a trading center with foreign countries about 500 yeas ago. So, Oda Nobunaga paid enough attention to Sakai.

Famous person
Yosano Akiko: She is Tanka poet, and made many Tanka. "Midaregami" is her book of poem and the one of the most famous book in Japan.
